1. Purpose of the report and policy context

1.1 At the 14 July 2021 HOSC meeting, members received an update from NHS England (NHSE) dental commissioners on dental services in the city, with particular reference to disruptions caused by the Covid-19 pandemic.

1.2 The HOSC Chair has asked for NHSE commissioners to attend the April 2022 HOSC meeting to provide a verbal update on the current situation.

3. Context and background information

3.1 NHS dental services are commissioned from dental practices by NHS England regional teams. Dental practices are independent business and are not obliged to offer NHS services. If they chose to do so, they are commissioned to provide a specified amount of dental activity.

3.2 NHSE dental commissioners will provide an update on dental services in the city at the 13 April meeting.
